TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF – Aprenda a fazer um currículo em inglês!

If you have a job interview or you are applying for a job abroad, we can help you with some good and essential tips.

I think this is one of the most difficult things to do “ talk about yourself” – Falar sobre você mesmo!

An important key to success is SELF-CONFIDENCE, an important key to SELF-CONFIDENCE is PREPARATION

So let’s prepare ourselves!

Introduce yourself

Hi, Hello, good evening, good morning

Let me introduce myself I’m ________.

I don’t think we have met before. I’m______.

You know that 38 % of a person’s first impression is determined by tone of voice.

Exchanging greetings:

Os mais simples e os mais usados:

Nice to meet you.

I am very pleased to meet you.

I am delighted to meet you.

Introducing other people:

I want you to meet… (quero que você conheça)

I want you to meet our manager Peter.

This is____. (Essa é – esse é)

This is my coworker Rachel.

I’d like to introduce you to… ( Gostaria de te apresentar para…)

I’d like to introduce you to our supervisor, Marcus.

Asking about personal details

What do you do?

I am a salesperson – I am a teacher – I am a developer – I am lawyer.

Which part of…… are you from? I am from the south of Brazil.

You are in international person looking for a job abroad, so it is normal that people will ask you this question.

Keeping in contact and ending a conversation:

NETWORKING- Keeping in contact- future business with

Do you have a business card?

I’d like to keep in contact.

Here’s my card.

Ending a conversation:

I’m afraid I have to go now.

It was very nice to meet you.

It was nice meeting you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Let’s check some key words that will help you:

So tell me what did you do in your last job?

was in charge of… a large group of people

was responsible for… coordinating a large group of people.

Most of my work consisted of…

worked in… a big company- multinational

mainly deal with… after sales enquires.

I worked as a receptionist at a big company.

Education in short

I have done MBA in HR.

In a resume you can write like this:

2009 MBA in Human resources

Harvard university

But if you didn’t finish it you can add under it:

In progress

Expected graduation in 2025

First the interview starts the moment you enter in so posture is important.

Eye contact

Firm handshake

Small talk before starting the interview

Remember that you are talking about yourself so it should be easy and most of your information will be in your CV (resume)

So just preparer yourself and everything will be okay.

Next step I will be talking about “What are your strengths?”

So basically we will discuss how to say nice things about yourself but in a nice way J

See you next class

What are your strengths?

This question is often asked in interviews of course we can’t predict what they are going to ask you, but we can practice the ones that they always ask.

Many candidates are not sure on how to answer this question but with preparation we can do it.

Remember what we saw last class: An important key to success is SELF-CONFIDENCE, an important key to SELF-CONFIDENCE is PREPARATION

This is one of the questions that they always ask

What are your strengths?

I’m…

  • Easygoing
  • A people person
  • Motivated – Self motivated

“Motivation is a door that should be open from the inside”

  • Hardworking
  • Dedicated
  • Down-to-Earth
  • Spontaneous.
  • Patient
  • Flexible
  • Creative
  • Honest
  • Fast decision maker
  • Optimistic
  • Innovative
  • Enthusiastic

A good answer for this question would be:

I can say that I am a hardworking, a honest and a self motivated person with positive attitude towards my career and life.

Another interesting things to say:

“I’ve always been a natural leader. With more than 5 years of experience in finance and sales.

“I’m collaborative and I have always preferred to work in groups.

“I have good writing skills. I’ve worked as a copywriter for 3 years.

“I never miss a deadline. I’m very organize.

Now you know how to talk about your strengths, in a nice way.

Have a nice day!
